Organisation of Academic Process

The organization of educational procedure according to credit modular system includes 360 (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) ECTS credits, which are aggregated during 6 years of study. Each academic year includes 60 credits (1 week - 1 5 ECTS credits) and lasts for 40 weeks.

1 ECTS credit is calculated on the basis of 30 academic hours. An academic year is comprised of 1,800 academic hours. The total academic weight consists of the time consumed on lectures, practicals, seminars and laboratory classes, practices, conferences as well as the individual and independent work carried out and of course the organized events.

The students of 4-5th year in the courses like stomatology, pharmaceutical faculties and of 4-6th year in the courses of medical & psychological faculty studies as per the usual or examined system for an education organization of educational process, which is described according to the "Provisions on organization for academic process at higher schools" (order from MHC of Ukraine, dd. 02.07.1993, No 161) and also determined from some other existing regulatory legal documents.


Educational study process at National Medical University (NMU) is carried out with the various modes of learning and teaching including: Classrooms & Classes mode includes the lectures given by expert faculties, laboratory- work & practicals carried out by experienced lab- associates, seminar classes and consultations also exercising of individual tasks, students individual work, practical trainings.

Although lectures are the main form to carry out the training or practical sessions, which is designed for the implementation of learning the theoretical syllabus and subjects with using the scientific achievements, systematically thorough described study and it also defines the basic concepts about all the training sessions.

During the period of practical training students get familiarized with the working procedures and tasks in the specialization field of their own. Training period basically increases the students' professional skills and motivation. During the training period students become totally knowledgeable about the activities, culture, work and social life of any organization. A student become accustomed about the future working destination in form of organization while working on the field, performing the tasks at work and the operational research at organizations including the experience of entrepreneurship.

Laboratory classes are the type of classes, where a student intensifies their theoretical and practical knowledge in own field. It is carried out after conducting the research and experiments under the supervision of an educator and acquires the practical experience of their field while working with equipments, computers, etc.

Seminars are the type of sessions, in which a tutor or instructor organizes the discussion around some certain and previously learned topics and subjects with which students prepare their performances which basically is based on the individual assignments such as essays, summaries etc. Seminars are usually worked in making a student gains the skills of written and oral interpretation of the article writings, essays making etc.
