Open Dialog of University Rector With Students

The regular meeting of rector Kateryna Amosova with students was held on 11, November in the assembly hall of physical chemical building of NMU. The performance of such meetings will be regular at the initiative of the rector.

The pro-rectors, deans of faculties and representatives from bodies of university students' self-government also took part in the meeting. The students' questions concerned most different sides of students' life:

in the first turn, of course, further destiny of students-deferred matriculants from Donetsk and Lugansk regions (What is the mechanism for transfer to the constant basis of study at NMU? How and when can the academic backlog be removed? When will the stipendium be accrued? Is a simplified system of failed classes' backlog possible?).

The rector informed that 625 persons were transferred to NMU in the status of students-deferred matriculants from Donetsk and Lugansk medical universities according to the Directive by Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No 785, dd. 27.08.2014. No student was denied to access to study. And all proper conditions for residence at hostels were established for this category of students. In order to explain the further destiny of students of ATO area, the rector sent the letter to the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine. And at this stage the university administration recommends students-deferred matriculants, who wish to become full students of NMU, immediately to write the corresponding applications to the dean's offices. During holidays period a student-deferred matriculant, providing that there is no academic backlog and there is vacant places, may be transferred to the constant basis of study at NMU. As it concerns failed classed, it will be introduced into curriculum.

organization of academic process (excessive physical load at physical culture classes; lack of free time at students of dental faculty, who study due to band system of study; duration of winter holidays).

The head of university informed that it is planned to introduce the changes into physical culture classes. Namely: to make physical education for foreign students on optional basis; to reduce the academic hours of classes by two times for Ukrainian students; to cancel the rates and to cancel the assessment. As well it is planned to perform the surveys about selection of discipline among students.

Students of dental faculty, who are not satisfied with the study due to band system, will be offered with the cycle band system to solve the issue on lack of time. As for winter holidays, their duration remains unchanged. See NMU's site for more details.

Residence at hostels (how should one receive a permit for drive to the territory of a student quarter? What students will be settled to hostel No3?). The pro-rector on scientific pedagogical activity and perspective development informed that it is necessary to appeal to the director of a student quarter to receive a permit for drive to the territory of a student quarter.

And the students, who used to live at hostel No3 but had to move to other hostels for the period of overhaul, will be settled to it. Finally, the rector added that the survey of students will be held in October this year through anonymous questionnaire survey on topic "Have the students had the cases for demand on money by teachers". Thus, over 400 students were questioned, among them only 3 students had the positive answers. It testifies to the fact that the mechanism of democratic transformations started acting at the university.
